Quality Care checklist while choosing a Day Care and Preschool

Don't just ask your friends and relatives - check it out for yourself. Take your preschooler with you, but do so if he/she is not tired, hungry or sick.
Take a quick tour and come back later with more questions.
Do not be shy. Talk to other parents and ask for references.
Un-announced visits are vital in seeing firsthand, how the school staff interacts with visitors.
When was it established and what credentials does the school have?.

Check the particulars, qualification and experience of the management body. Is a member of the management always at the school? How approachable is the head of the institution? This makes a lot of difference.
Does the preschool/day care have a daily interaction with the parents to share your child's progress?
When you ask for references of other parents from the management, are they readily provided?
How long has the present principal / director and the other staff (teaching and non-teaching) been there? Frequent change of staff is not a good sign.
What is the Teacher-Child ratio?
What is the Ayah-child ratio?
How many class rooms do they have?
Check the quality of play equipment, toys and other teaching equipment. Are they child safe?
Make sure you look at the rooms. Do they have attached toilets? It would be unfair to expect the toddler to walk in to the toilet-block far away.
How big are the class rooms? How many children are planned in one classroom? What is the space-to-child ratio? More than 20 makes it a poultry farm and not a class room.
How many toilets are there in the school? Compare them with the total strength of the school. What is the size? How clean are they? Check for yourself.
How big is the indoor (in addition to the class rooms) and outdoor play area? Does it have a large enough Splash Pool, Sand Pit and play area?
Are the toys and books adequate? Are the toys child-safe? What brand are they? How often are the toys washed?
Enquire about this preschool from the staff of bigger schools.
Is the management willing to refund the fee if you are unhappy?
Do not just go by the name/brand. You are not buying a product. You are paying for the service. The commitment of the management behind this service is the most important factor.
Once decided, go ahead with your decision. After all it is your child. You would only give the best to your child and nothing less.
